Neurocognitive involvement in children with chronic liver disease (CLD) or portosystemic shunting (PSS) is an under recognized but clinically meaningful complication with implications for neurodevelopment and long-term outcomes. Although hepatic encephalopathy is well defined in adults, children with liver disease exhibit distinct and often subtle neurocognitive manifestations that are not adequately captured by adult-based definitions. There is an awareness gap in routine pediatric hepatology care. This webinar is intended for hepatologists, gastroenterologists, transplant coordinators, surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, fellows and trainees. Others with an interest in neurocognitive involvement in children with liver disease are also welcome to attend.
Upon completion of this activity, a participant should be able to:

• Comprehend the clinical spectrum of neurocognitive involvement of chronic liver disease
• Identify appropriate questions to ask to determine the level of neurocognitive symptoms in children
• Develop recommendations for early interventions before level of transplantation
• Comprehend cellular and molecular basis of neurocognitive involvement in transplant decisions
