This educational activity examines the evidence supporting semaglutide use in MASH, with a focus on findings from the Phase 3 ESSENCE trial and the role of invasive and non-invasive tests (NITs) for liver fibrosis in patient selection and assessment of treatment response. The activity also reviews published evidence on semaglutide across MASH and other FDA-approved indications, relevant FDA regulatory documents, and selected unpublished data provided by Novo Nordisk in 2025.

Featuring insights from Dr. Meena Bansal, an author of the updated American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) practice guidance, this activity translates current evidence and recommendations into practical considerations for clinicians. Topics include identifying appropriate patients for semaglutide without requiring liver biopsy, selecting and interpreting non-invasive tests, monitoring patients during treatment, and assessing treatment response. The FDA prescribing information remains the official regulatory document for semaglutide use in the United States.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • FDA indication and practice recommendations for identifying, selecting, and monitoring patients with MASH eligible for semaglutide.
  • Patient selection for Semaglutide candidates
  • Monitoring and Safety
  • Treatment Response and Concomitant Therapy
The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 0.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
