My name is Victor Navarro, and thank you for all coming. We have now the Hyman J. Zimmerman Hepatotoxicity State of the Art Lecture for 2019. I know we're all running behind, but we want Dr. Daly to have her time at the podium, which is well deserved. I'll begin by saying that Dr. Zimmerman's clinical observations were so vivid and relevant that, there we are, that many careers transcending several disciplines became focused on hepatotoxicity research as a result. His seminal text rests on the shelves of most of our libraries, and with each liver meeting, we celebrate his life's work by honoring a prominent investigator through this named lectureship. This year's named lecturer is Dr. Anne Daly. Dr. Daly is Professor of Pharmacogenetics at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the United Kingdom. She holds a bachelor's and PhD degrees in biochemistry from the University of Dublin. She was a postdoc at the University of Geneva and then moved to Newcastle University where she was a founding member of the Newcastle Pharmacogenetics Research Group. Her current research is focused on genetic susceptibility to idiosyncratic adverse drug reactions, especially drug-induced liver injury, the pharmacogenetics of the human cytochrome's P450, and the genetics of complex diseases more generally. Dr. Daly has published over 200 peer review articles with an impressive H factor of 80, but we clinical investigators often refer to her pivotal finding of the association of flucloxacillin hepatotoxicity with HLA-B5701. This landmark 2009 study has given us all reason to vigorously work to understand the genetic basis of hepatotoxicity. So with that, I welcome Dr. Daly to the podium and we congratulate her on this year's recipient and presenter for the Hyman Zimmerman Hepatotoxicity Lecture. Thank you.
Video Summary
Victor Navarro welcomes attendees to the Hyman J. Zimmerman Hepatotoxicity State of the Art Lecture for 2019, honoring Dr. Anne Daly as the named lecturer. Dr. Daly, a Professor of Pharmacogenetics, is renowned for her research on genetic susceptibility to adverse drug reactions, focusing on drug-induced liver injury. Her pivotal finding linking flucloxacillin hepatotoxicity with HLA-B5701 has driven investigations into the genetic basis of hepatotoxicity. With over 200 peer-reviewed articles and an H factor of 80, Dr. Daly's work continues to impact the field. Attendees celebrate Dr. Zimmerman's legacy by recognizing outstanding researchers in hepatotoxicity, with Dr. Daly being this year's recipient.
